The 2004 barrel samples hold no surprise—Syrah is still the star

Many Paso Robles vintners think the quality of the 2004 vintage may make it a breakout year for their appellation, at least for Syrah, which has emerged as their workhorse grape. They're happy to have it, even as they experiment with other grapes in this vast area's many microclimates.
