The wines featured in this report are among the first Finger Lakes Rieslings from the 2009 vintage I have tasted. The vintage tested the area’s winemakers, with intermittently cool and wet weather that resulted in late and uneven ripening. Luckily, Riesling, the region’s lead vinifera variety, handled the conditions well, and some of the top Finger Lakes producers turned out bright, high-toned, floral-driven bottlings that further demonstrate the region’s burgeoning experience quotient.
