Q: I just bought a case of Taylor Fladgate 2007 Vintage Port and would like to be sure it's stored properly. I've read conflicting opinions regarding storing port on its side or upright. Can you please help educate me? -- Jen
A: Just like unfortified wines, Vintage Port should be stored on its side to prevent the cork from drying out. Some Vintage Ports have a white mark on the bottle. This mark should face upwards, so that the crust or sediment develops uniformly on the opposite side. If you have to move the bottle, you can always return it to the proper position.
