Three consecutive excellent vintages show why Rioja is Spain’s top wine region

Rioja has been Spain’s premier red-wine region for more than a century. It has been challenged recently by Ribera del Duero and Toro (which also use local versions of Rioja’s main grape, Tempranillo), along with Priorat and, most recently, Bierzo, but three excellent vintages in a row have shown Rioja at its best.
