Jean-Michel Cazes - 2007

Jean-Michel Cazes, the owner of Château Lynch-Bages, was one of the first in Bordeaux to combine modern winemaking methods with savvy international marketing to achieve a worldwide reputation for his family’s wineries. His efforts also resulted in dramatic improvements in quality and reputation for the portfolio of wineries owned by French insurance giant AXA, where he was the chief executive from 1987 until his retirement in 2000. He has made two Wine Spectator Wines of the Year: the 1989 Château Pichon-Longueville-Baron, in 1992, and the 1985 Château Lynch-Bages, in 1988. Today, his wine projects circle the globe, he owns several restaurants and a hotel in Bordeaux, and he is active in civic and charitable organizations in the region and beyond.
