2005 Distinguished Service Award: Joan Dillon

Posted: October 12, 2007

Joan Dillon - 2005

Joan Dillon, the Duchess of Mouchy, is the president of the Bordeaux first-growth Château Haut-Brion, which has been owned by her family since 1935. The no-nonsense American, who lives in Paris, also runs Château La Mission-Haut-Brion, which her family bought in 1983. Dillon’s dedication to maintaining and improving two of the world’s great wine estates is little known, but no other woman and very few men have spent so long a time overseeing such legendary wine estates. Dillon now runs Haut-Brion with her son, Prince Robert de Luxembourg, who is vice president and managing director of Clarence Dillon. Photographed in 2005.
