1984 Distinguished Service Award: Robert Mondavi

Posted: October 12, 2007

Robert Mondavi - 1984

No one has done more to raise the bar for American wine than Robert Mondavi. The patriarch of Napa Valley can look back on a career rich in risk-taking and reward. It all flowed from the landmark 1966 winery that Mondavi built to announce both his arrival and his vision. Mondavi’s charitable efforts include chairing the inaugural Napa Valley Wine Auction, helping launch the American Institute of Wine and Food and establishing Copia: The American Center for Wine, Food and the Arts. He has also given generously to the University of California, Davis. Photographed in 2000.
