Bill Newlands, who quit as president and CEO of Sonoma's Simi Winery and Napa's Domaine Chandon in December, has taken a position at Canandaigua Wine Company, best known for its low-priced wine blends. Newlands will be vice president and general manager of the New York-based beverage giant's table wine business.

Newlands spent nearly three years at Simi and Chandon, following nine years with Gallo. At the time Newlands left Simi, he indicated that the winery may be up for sale.

Canandaigua Brands, headquartered in the Finger Lakes region, produces and markets wine, beer and distilled sprits in the United States and United Kingdom. Its wine portfolio includes Almaden, the new Arbor Mist fruit-flavored wines, Cook's, Dunnewood, Estate Cellars, Inglenook, Marcus James, Manischewitz, Paul Masson, Mystic Cliffs, Wild Irish Rose and Vina Santa Carolina.
