Harvest in Texas Hill Country

Regions

Texas Hill Country

Texas doesn't do anything small. That includes Texas Hill Country, the Lone Star State's premier wine region, which spans some 15,000 square miles from San Antonio to halfway to Fort Worth. It's the second-largest American Viticultural Area, with 25 wineries, charming towns like Fredericksburg, and plenty of restaurants to satisfy that Texas-size appetite.

When visiting Texas Hill Country, base yourself in Fredericksburg, a small town with a big-city attitude. Here, you'll find upscale accommodations, fine dining, wine bars, museums and, of course, easy access to the wineries in the surrounding hills. Many of the restaurants pour Texas wines, including the region's popular dessert wines and interesting Bordeaux-style blends. Spend your days at tasting rooms, then dine out in the Hill Country or in nearby Austin, just 70 miles away. For the evening, curl up by the fireplace, a standard at these historic hotels, with a glass of wine and friendly conversation.
