RIGHT BANK: THE LIBOURNAIS
On Bordeaux's Right Bank, Libourne is the main city. It is located just north of the Dordogne River, about 20 miles upstream from the Gironde estuary.

Pomerol and St.-Émilion are the stars here, but Fronsac and Canon-Fronsac also make some noteworthy wines.
In the Libournais, there is more clay in the soils although there's still plenty of gravel and limestone. The additional clay makes the soils cooler and moister.
To compensate, many of the top vineyards are found on warmer, south-facing slopes.
