Good Point, Doug. I tend to not get the bottles I request when I am there. They are either not available or sent back because of being useless.

I've been going there since the mid-80's and I have never been disappointed. I always call ahead to the Sommelier to get a recommendation for a wine in my price range. Some may be put off by the decor which reminds me of what a New Orleans' whorehouse may have looked like in the late 1800's.Joe Bartholdi

One of the best restaurants in the world, and definitely the best wine list anywhere. Many wines you wouldn't otherwise see in a lifetime are just sitting there on the massive wine list for you to enjoy. From Madeira from the late 1800s or Bordeaux from throughout the 1900s, this list has everything. And the prices are cheap for such an amazing restarant too.

Having read about Bern's for over 15 years my wife and I finally visited Tampa/St. Pete and Bern's last Wednesday(1/21). Had and exceptional 4 1/2 hr. dining experience that my wife is still raving about. We split a 14oz. Chateaubriand with wonderful sides and a bottle of 2002 D'Arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz. Took a tour of the kitchen and wine cellar after the meal then went upstairs for dessert. Chocolate mousse with berries and a Turkish coffee to finish things off and we were happy campers. The only thing missing was a fine cigar and a Scotch to close out the evening. Thank you anti-smoking crowd. You sure know how to ruin a good time. (Had the cigar and an amaretto on the balcony back at my hotel room later) A couple of minor grievances but they didn't detract from the evening. The decanter our wine was poured into had chips around the lip. Also, the wine steward that gave us the tour through the wine room seemed to have as much knowledge and interest in wine as the kid who mows my lawn. Good thing he knows his numbers though. He couldn't answer any of my questions and had to run off after about 3 minutes. Otherwise, Bern's lived up to it's reputation. I would visit again next time I'm in Tampa in a minute. Bern's is the epitomy of fine steakhouses.

Just had dinner there last week. First time for my wife and I. For us it was an amazing experience. We had a delmonico for two with a bottle of 1995 Chateau Haut-Bailly. Since they keep their cellars in the mid 40s, the wines age more slowly. That wine will likely have a fresh taste in another 10 years as well. Afterwards, we had the kitchen tour, wine cellar tour and desert upstairs. I've never seen anything like their wine cellar. My wife had to drag me away!! We think that Bern's is the best steak house we've ever visited in the US.
