Is Bigger Better? What You Like in Restaurant Wine Lists

July 16, 2014

This year, more than 3,700 restaurants around the world earned a Wine Spectator Restaurant Award for its wine list. Typically, restaurants must offer at least 90 wine selections to earn the basic Award of Excellence, 400 or more wines to earn the Best of Award of Excellence, and the 74 Grand Award winners offer 1,500 wine selections, if not many, many more.

How many selections do you prefer to see on a restaurant's wine list?

Fewer than 100; I don't want browsing the list to interfere with dinner conversation

100 to 500; I want depth and breadth in the choices, but don't want a weighty tome

More than 500; I want the widest choice possible and like to research in advance
