How do you feel?" Marvin R. Shanken asked the 1,300 guests gathered for the Grand Award banquet, the grand finale of the California Wine Experience. Thundering from the podium at the front of the ballroom, he posed another question, by then familiar to all attendees: "Does anyone care how I feel?" Having heard the refrain throughout the weekend of tasting and seminars, the audience knew the answer to both questions: "I feel good!" And after two and a half days of waiting, they were finally going to get to see James Brown -- the Godfather of Soul, the hardest-working man in show business, and a figure of worship for Wine Spectator's editor and publisher.
