For Bernard Portet, returning to his native France to oversee winemaking at Domaine de Nizas in the Languedoc was a bit like starting over. A veteran of more than three decades of work at Clos du Val winery in California's Napa Valley, Portet, 56, had to learn the intricate rules governing French winemaking.
