July 31, 2001 Tantara Winery Targeting the central Coast Bottles pilfered from a cellar in Roanoke, Va., might not sound like a promising starting point for the typical California wine estate. But it's hard to argue with the success of Tantara Winery in Santa Barbara County, especially after tasting their delicious 1999 Arroyo Grande Valley Talley Vineyard Chardonnay (91 points, $28, 70 cases) made by partners Bill Cates, 61, and Jeffrey Fink, 48.
