July 31, 2001 Grapevine California vintner Jess Jackson got cold feet when it came to parting with his family-owned Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates. In May, shortly after Australian wine giant BRL Hardy announced its bid for the Sonoma County-based company, Kendall-Jackson CEO Lewis Platt said that after considering offers from a number of firms, the winery was no longer pursuing a sale or merger.
