December 31, 1998 Auction Index Drops 3 Percent in Third Quarter Highly prized collectibles fare better than the Dow By Peter D. Meltzer The Wine Spectator Auction Index fell 3 percent during the third quarter of 1998, a modest correction compared to the 15 percent drop in the Dow Jones Industrial Average during the same time period.
