
March 31, 1998 Chalone Founder Richard Graff Dies In Plane Crash Richard Graff, who revived Chalone Vineyard and founded the Chalone Wine Group family of wineries in California, died Jan. 9 after flying his private plane into a power pole near Soledad in Monterey County.
