February 28, 1997 Grand Totals Year-end results for 1996 show that wine auctions are still booming and prices continue to rise By Peter D. Meltzer British and American sales of wine at auction rose a dramatic 54 percent in 1996 to a new high of over $70 million, more than double the revenues achieved in 1994, when wine auctions were first legalized in New York state.
