
November 30, 1996 Sotheby's First Los Angeles Sale Garners $1.39 Million Sotheby's inaugural wine sale in Los Angeles racked up $1.39 million Oct. 12, with 89 percent sold. There were fewer coats and ties in the audience and a somewhat larger percentage of California wines on the block, but otherwise the differences between this sale and its London and New York counterparts were minimal.
