August 31, 1996 Grapevine Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa went to Spain recently and took home an award for his efforts linking wine and culture. The Rioja appellation council gave the novelist its 1996 Premio Prestigio Rioja in Logroño, the capital of Rioja.
