(New York) Sale Date: May 18, 1996 Gross: $708,837 (including the 15 percent buyer's premium) Number of Lots: 1,034 Percent Sold: 91.3 Record Breakers: A case of six magnums of Château Lafite Rothschild 1986 went for $2,990, 57 percent above its average in the Wine Spectator Auction Index for the first quarter of 1996; a jeroboam (equal to six bottles) of Château Margaux 1982 for $2,530, up 37 percent; a methuselah (equal to eight bottles) of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti 1983 for $6,000, up 30 percent.
