October 15, 1996 California Wines to be Made in an Aussie Style Australia's biggest wine company is trying its hand in California. Southcorp, parent company of Penfolds and more than a dozen other Australian wineries, struck a deal in late August with the Niven family, owner of Paragon Vineyards in San Luis Obispo, to launch a joint venture.
