March 31, 1996 Eugene Trefethen, Founder of Napa Valley Winery, Dies Eugene Trefethen, founder of Trefethen Vineyards in Napa Valley, died on Jan. 31. He was 86. The former president and vice chairman of Kaiser Industries purchased Trefethen in 1968 as a retirement project.
