March 31, 1996 Napa Valley Vintner Donald Hess Buys Half of South Africa's Glen Carlou Winery in Worldwide Expansion Donald Hess, the Swiss multimillionaire business-man who owns The Hess Collection Winery in Napa Valley, has acquired a 50 percent stake in one of South Africa's top wineries, Glen Carlou.
