March 31, 1996 Grapevine Good news for lovers of black truffles: Prices opened at $145 to $180 per pound, about 30 percent below last winter's level, at the recent truffle market in Aubin, France. Brokers and restaurant owners did business with plenty of money in their pockets because all transactions are carried out in cash.
