April 30, 1994 California Winery Grows With Pride High atop Napa Valley's Spring Mountain, a new winery has taken root. Its first wines are impressive, with the promise of more to come. Jim and Carolyn Pride bought 170 acres of volcanic earth in 1989, more than 2,000 feet up in the rugged terrain that rises west of the Napa Valley floor.
