January 31, 1994 * By a margin of 3-to-1, Swiss voters have rejected an initiative to ban alcohol and tobacco advertising and sponsoring. The Swiss wine districts were particularly forceful in knocking down the proposal, which would have banned alcohol advertising in newspapers, movie theaters and sporting and cultural events.
