U.S. Auction Sales Up in First Half 2016

Global totals reflect little change, but individual markets see surges and dips

In terms of total dollars, global auction sales of fine and rare wine in the first half of 2016 were little different from the same period in 2015; this year's $138 million figure represents just a 1 percent increase over the first half of last year. But a closer look at the top three markets-the United States, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong-reveals some surges and a notable fall, demonstrating the unpredictable nature of the marketplace now.
