Coffee is a wonderfully versatile beverage. While Wine Spectator's Mark Pendergrast loves his fresh-brewed morning cup, it's also nice to explore coffee as a mixer for cool summer drinks, where the unique arabica flavor blends with fruits, ice cream, chocolate and various sweeteners to make unique, refreshing pick-me-ups. These are surprisingly popular—one in four coffee beverages served in U.S. cafés and restaurants is a flavored smoothie or iced drink. Unfortunately, most of them are produced with premade mixes.
