Where once many viewers of such Downton Abbey would have fantasized about and identified with the "upstairs" life of the upper classa nd surely plenty of people still do—a good number of viewers now are more interested in the mechanics of impeccable service. Modern American life has never seen such an array of services performed at such high levels of accomplishment. Mind you, this isn't just a matter of top-tier restaurants; it's visible at many more mundane venues as well.
