Washington excels with Rhône-style bottlings, but top versions may be hard to find

Washington has commanded attention in recent years with bottlings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, along with a tantalizing range of lesser-known grape varieties, but Syrah continues to produce the state's most exciting wines. More than 100 Syrahs earned outstanding ratings (90 points or higher on Wine Spectator's 100-point scale) in this report, which encompasses all Washington wines reviewed in the past year.
