We all start somewhere. If you were fortunate enough to grow up in a family that had a cellar, or you drank and understood wine at an early age, then you had a head start. Most of us didn't. Wine was foreign, something that had to be learned. Yet wine appreciation is more than a race for knowledge to see who's ahead in the tasting games. Rather it's a personal journey that each of us should take at our own pace. We can glean as much or as little knowledge as we desire. Wine can be as simple or as complicated as we choose. Wine Spectator's James Laube explains.
