
The 2010 vintage took the expanding world of California Rhône-style wines in new directions. It was the coolest growing season in recent memory, resulting in flavor profiles favoring the savory side of Syrah and its peers. As California Rhônes continue to grow in number, many vintners are experimenting with different varieties in search of more distinctive wines. The 2010 vintage is their latest testing ground. Wine Spectator's James Laube offers his assessment.
