California Merlot Makes Its Case

The 2009 vintage is one of the most successful ever for California Merlot. Featuring dozens of outstanding releases, it represents a long-awaited turnaround for this sometimes underperforming wine. Credit a near-perfect growing season, as well as improvements in the vineyards and cellars, for the upsurge in quality. Wine Spectator's Tim Fish explains.
