Guests at the seventh annual Carnivale du Vin were enjoying wine and hors d'oeuvres when the whistle blew. To the raucous beat of drums and cymbals, the Roots of Music marching band paraded into the ballroom of the New Orleans convention center. Co-founded by a Rebirth Brass Band drummer, Roots of Music offers after-school music education for 140 children from low-income families. Wine Spectator's Mitch Frank explains.
