Costco Wins Vote, Boisset Bets on the South of France …and Monterey

Wine Spectator reports that Washington state voters have approved a ballot initiative to privatize state-controlled liquor sales and loosen rules on wine sales. But the new law, supported by wholesale giant Costco, has many wineries, distributors and retailers concerned about the long-term impact. Also, Boisset Family Estates has closed a deal to buy Languedoc-based Skalli Family Wines. The price was undisclosed. And Boisset announced it had purchased Lockwood Vineyard in California's Monterey County.
