
Shelley Lindgren, wine director and owner of San Francisco hot spots A16 and SPQR), owns a two-story home with a truly convenient feature: an underground bunker that's perfect for a wine collection. Her neighborhood is made up of former military officer housing, many with cement basements, a rarity in San Francisco. Lindgren says that it's not uncommon for Bay Area collectors to rent storage space in the area for their wine because the conditions are so ideal. Wine Spectator associate editor Jennifer Fiedler explains.
