Smaller But Better

South African exports to the United States are down, but the quality of the wines arriving is on the rise

The eyes of billions of soccer fans will be on South Africa this summer when it hosts the 2010 World Cup-that's the easy part. But the country is having a harder time drawing attention to its wines, especially among American consumers. Following several years of rapid growth, 2009 saw a decline in exports of South African wine to the United States. But the silver lining is that quality remains on the upswing.
