
Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., physician Bruce Hubbard began seriously collecting wine after searching for Port to lay down to mark his son's birth in 1997. A decade later, he had amassed 3,000 bottles and also had his first harvest in barrel from the single-acre vineyard of Beaucastel clones he'd planted on his property. ("I wanted to learn about wine literally from the ground up," he explains.) And then, it all burned down.
