The northern Italian region of Piedmont offers more than Barolos and Barbarescos, especially when it comes to value. Look for the region's supple Dolcettos and black fruit-flavored Barberas for reds with character that won't blow your budget. Piedmont also makes several whites, including some rich Chardonnays like the version below from Moccagatta.
