
Jeff Strauss, a chef in Solana Beach, Calif., can trace the origins of his passion for wine directly to the doorstep of his 13-year-old restaurant, the Pamplemousse Grille. Prior to starting the restaurant, he claims, he didn't know that much about wine. "I didn't know the difference between a snowflake and a cornflake." Now, however, he has 5,600 bottles of wine spread over two cellars at his home.
