
Dan Aykroyd was 3 years old when his father built a toy that changed his life. This was the 1950s, when boys conquered the neighborhood with scrap-lumber swords and rifles. Instead of making his son a weapon, Aykroyd's father cut off the end of a hockey stick, wrapped some rope around the shaft and attached a black knob to the top to create a mock microphone.
