Mixed Signals in Wine Auction Markets
Record-breaking lot sales are tempered by weak overall percent-sold rates
Against a backdrop of spiraling Wall Street losses, auctions of fine and rare wine sent out mixed signals in September and early October. Several record highs for individual lots were achieved during the period, and Acker Merrall & Condit and Hart Davis Hart even notched two 100 percent sold sales.
