Long, long before George Clooney arrived, Lake Como was a chic destination for the good life, northern Italian style. Nestled in a naturally lush mountain valley between Milan and the Alps, the shores of Como were prized by the Romans, dotted with palatial villas and gardens during the Renaissance, heralded as heaven on earth by English romantic poets and, more recently, frequented by modern generations of the international rich, famous or recently married.
