
In February, the Wine Institute, a trade organization that represents California wine producers, announced that exports of American wine rose 8.6 percent last year, to $951 million. Though the organization said that the weak dollar has made California wines more attractive to foreign consumers, the volume of wine sent overseas, now 5 percent of the world's total wine exports, has been increasing significantly from year to year.
