Portland offers fine seafood and imaginative wine lists

It was so green as our plane made the approach to Maine's Portland International Jetport, you would have thought we were making an emergency landing on a golf course. The car ride from the airport—whose exit was awash with blooming rhododendrons—to downtown Portland was barely longer than a Tiger Woods drive.
