
After months of difficult negotiations, agriculture ministers from the European Union came to an agreement late last year to reform the continent's wine industry. In the end, EU agriculture commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel had to water down her aggressive 2006 reform proposal, but she believes the agreement will help get the European wine industry back on track and make it more able to compete with New World wine-producing countries.
