Vintners know that every year is a roll of the dice when it comes to wine quality. In 2004, California Cabernet—especially the wines from Napa Valley—hit the jackpot. Senior editor James Laube, our lead taster on California wines, describes 2004 as the best vintage since 1999 for Napa Cabernet, with a classic rating of 95 points on the Wine Spectator 100-point scale, based on his blind tastings of more than 350 wines from the vintage.
