
In 2005, auction houses sold $166 million worth of fine and rare wine, a record amount and a 31 percent increase over 2004 sales. But apparently that was just a warm-up for 2006. According to numbers released by major auction houses and select Internet auction firms, sales exceeded $240 million last year, a dramatic 45 percent increase over the year before.
